Coming up on two years after the death of Elliott Smith, it is heartening to still come across new (to me) and different takes on songs from his amazing catalog. I honestly never understood how people could be so heartbroken over the death of someone they never knew (I'm thinking Kurt Cobain, as he was the major musical death to occur during my childhood). However, Elliott's suicide hit me like a ton of bricks, and I will never question someone's connection to an artist again. He continues to be my favorite musician, and his music occupies a very special place in my heart. I can only hope that as the months and years pass on, fans will continue to share rare tracks like these which were just posted on sweetadeline, the best fansite around for any musician, IMO. These are from the only? time Elliott ever played piano at one of his shows.
